When I'm introduced to a new word sometimes I use "Show" button because I don't know which kanjis are used to write it. After seeing the kanji I realize that I know how to write it, but the "don't know" button is selected.

Should I check "got it" if I know how to write the kanji? The kanji got a penalty even if is a mastered one?

Example:

I got a new word to review: "Together" (一緒に いっしょに).
As it's a new word probably I don't know it begins with "一", I push "show" and I see the char is this very easy kanji that I know how to write. Should I check "got it"? Or leave it a "don't know"?

Sometimes my "character writings learned" count goes down when new words are introduced and I wonder if this is the reason...

If i know the meaning of the individual kanji, *and* how to write it, i manually mark it correct using the 4 grading buttons-- but then the Word Writing as wrong/so-so (the circle you can click, instead of the manual grading buttons)

if you don't do this, your character writings will go down needlessly (or rather won't actually reflect on how many you know)

I agree with g1itch. This happens to me on a regular basis in Chinese and I mark the word wrong but the characters correct, assuming it's a new combination of known characters.
